29 September 2017

The exhibition Opera: Passion, Power and Politics, the first major international exhibition dedicated to the opera and its relationship with society, politics and culture, was presented at the Victoria&Albert Museum in London. The exhibition invites to discover the evolution of one of the most important cultural phenomena in Europe through seven opera premieres in seven cities. The Archivio Storico Ricordi is one of the main lenders of the exhibition providing numerous original documents of Giuseppe Verdi's Opera Nabucco, including the autograph score of the choir Va, pensiero. All the documents, which can also be enjoyed through an immersive sound installation, are displayed in the new Sainsbury Gallery inaugurated below the new V&A Museum Sackler yard. "Nabucco presence as representative title of the Italian Opera it is really important and the curators and designers of V&A have been able to put in an emotional impact setting", says Pierluigi Ledda, Managing Director of Archivio Storico Ricordi. "Choosing to associate our historical documents with photographs of Italian opera theaters by Mathias Schaller, gives life to a fascinating short-circuit that produces new sense and is a source of great pride for the Archive and for Bertelsmann, owner of the Archive, who is also sponsor of the exhibition".
